Peer into the mind of Dan as he tries to build an MP3 Player for his PDA and searches for the next thing in his life be it an electrical engineering job or graduate school.

I've been trying to get a mirror going. Before this I've been using Dreamweaver and two sites based on the same directory. The "problem" being is that because you change the contents in one site and not the other it has to recache all the pages. In other words: 1) Post an entry at blogger 2) Once I'm home boot up Dreamweaver 3) On the main site download the new changes 4) Change Sites 5) Upload the changes to the second ftp. This solution would work if all the webpage stuff was done at the computer... but it isn't.
Enter wget. I heard about it a while ago when I was trying to download a file in a Unix shell. Its all encompassed into one line:
wget --mirror -A.html www.DanielTse.com/weblog/Now if only I had access to crontab...
I've been trying to find a way to create directories and upload webpages using php. I'm sure there's a way to do it only I'm not so sure where or how. I can see why most free hosting server wouldn't allow it. It could possibly wreak havoc on their system like a one-year old discovering oil-based paints... Keep on searching I guess.
While I was helping Dan (another Dan) removing the W32.Blaster worm we came across a whole bunch of other worms! In total 183 worms/viruses/scripts were found on his computer. Craziness!! Anyways lots of problems solved: his computer was continually shutting down and rebooting (a classic symptom of W32.Blaster) so we fixed it by examining the services on his computer (Run -> "Services.msc /s") and then examining the properties (right-click) of the Remote Procedure Call (RPC)-not to be confused with Remote Procedure Call (RPC) Locator. We found out his computer (Recovery Tab) was set to reboot upon failing so we changed them all to 'Restart Service'. Running AVG we found the rest.
We had a few problems trying to resolve what was happening with Winlogin.exe (there's a program called WinlogON.exe which is normal and not to be confused with WinlogIN.exe). Finally after a bit of searching, I came across this which seemed to do the trick.
Now, I think I have to clarify that by no means am I some kind of windows guru. I'm not even close! I think I'm very lucky and blessed to have seen the right information at the right time and so far have been able to learn quickly. IF this is a gift, then I'm more than happy to share it with anyone. I mean all this knowledge, its not mine! Someone GAVE me the knowledge I'm just sort of managing it... Stewarding my knowledge. God is great!
If he had just given me fingers, it would have been enough.
If he had just given me a computer, it would have been enough.
If all he had given me was just the ability to learn, it would have been enough
but God is as wonderful as he is powerful,
Glorious as he is kind,
Wherever I go, he knows where I am and that...
is more than enough.
I just came across this app called WireKeys and its amazing!! I was helping Chris install Thunderbird onto his computer and although Thunderbird isn't perfect the features on it are pretty cool: Bayesian Spam filtering (it hasn't had a single false-positive and usually catches most of the spam!) the address book needs work and same thing with the Palm hookup but of all the things they were missing was a minimize to system tray. I mean you had to literally keep the program on your taskbar to get notices and that's no good. Enter Wirekeys!! After installing it, to "hide" or minize ANY program to the system tray you just right-click on the minimize button of the program you want to hide! Perfect!
